Klaviyo alternatives: work out the ratio first
Six credible replacements, priced at 5,000 people. But the decision turns on one number most comparisons skip: how much of your customer file is actually active.
Paid links on this page. Links that begin /go/ are partner links: follow one, subscribe, and the platform sends Reorderly a share of what you pay. Omnisend, Sender and Moosend are the only three that can. Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Brevo and Shopify pay this site nothing and are linked plainly wherever they are the right answer — which, on several pages here, they are. The full arrangement is written down.
The realistic alternatives to Klaviyo for an online store are Omnisend, Sender, Moosend, Mailchimp, Brevo and — if the store runs on Shopify — Shopify's own email tool. Which one replaces it depends on why you are leaving, and there are only three common reasons.
Either the profile meter has become expensive relative to what the flows earn, or you want SMS with a rate you can budget for, or you never needed the segmentation depth in the first place. Each points somewhere different.
First, check it is the meter and not the price
Klaviyo charges for active profiles — people who engaged recently — rather than for everyone on file. Before moving, work out your active-profile count against your total contact count, because that ratio decides whether a contact-metered platform is actually cheaper for you.
A store with 25,000 customers of whom 5,000 are active pays Klaviyo's 5,000-profile rate of $100 a month on the Email plan. The same store on a contact meter is billed for 25,000 people: $149 a month on Sender Standard, $160 on Moosend billed monthly. In that case Klaviyo is the cheap option and leaving would cost money.
Reverse the ratio — 5,000 customers who are nearly all active — and Klaviyo's $100 sits against Sender's $39 and Moosend's $48. That is the store that should leave.
If you are leaving on price
| Platform | Monthly rate at 5,000 | Meter | Catch worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sender | $39 Standard | Subscribers | Annual billing does not lower the rate; the 30% offer is first-year only |
| Moosend | $48 monthly, $38 annual | Contacts | The "save 20%" headline is rounded — at 500 contacts it is nearer 22% |
| Shopify Email | $50 at 60,000 emails/mo | Emails sent | Shopify stores only; rates above 300,000 emails/mo are not published |
| Brevo | $65 monthly at 60,000 emails/mo | Emails sent | Programme rejects new publishers, so it pays this site nothing |
| Omnisend | $81 Standard, $90 Pro | Contacts | Pricing page opens on a three-month prepay panel |
| Mailchimp | $100 list, $50 for 12 months | Contacts | List rate is exactly double the introductory one at every tier read |
What a 5,000-person list costs elsewhere, read at each vendor's own page on 24 September 2026, in US dollars per month. Klaviyo Email at 5,000 active profiles is $100.
Sender is the cheapest credible replacement at that size, at roughly a third of Klaviyo's Email plan. Its free tier — 2,500 subscribers and 15,000 emails a month with automation — also makes it the only platform here that a small store can leave Klaviyo for without paying anything at all.
If you are leaving for SMS
Go to Omnisend, and for a specific reason: it is the only platform in this comparison that publishes a per-message rate. From $0.007 a message, with a United States estimator showing $50 buying 5,882 messages at a stated volume rate of $0.0085.
Klaviyo sells mobile messaging without publishing what a message costs. Brevo says price depends on volume and destination. Sender includes ten dollars of SMS in its Professional plan with no rate card. If SMS economics are the reason you are moving, the number of options narrows to one.
If you never needed the depth
This is the most common case and the least discussed. Klaviyo's premium sits in predictive analytics, onsite personalisation, product recommendations, loyalty rewards and order tracking — all of which live on its Marketing plan at $78 a month for 500 profiles and $158 for 5,000.
A store running the four standard flows — cart, browse, post-purchase and reorder — is using almost none of that. Every platform in the table above runs those four. Moving is then a straightforward downgrade in capability you were not using and a straightforward reduction in bill.
What moving actually costs you
Contacts export and import readily. Automations do not: platforms model triggers, conditions and delays differently, so a flow gets rebuilt rather than migrated. Budget that as real work.
Omnisend advertises a free migration of automations, forms, segments and templates in up to five days — a vendor claim, not something this site has tested, and the only such offer published on any pricing page read here. You also lose Klaviyo's accumulated engagement history, which is what its predictive features were computing from, so those would need time to become useful again anywhere you land.
The alternatives worth ruling out, and why
Three names come up in this search that are worth addressing directly rather than leaving as gaps.
Mailchimp is a genuine alternative on price for the first year and a questionable one after it, because its list rate was exactly double its introductory rate at every contact tier read here. At 5,000 contacts that is $50 a month becoming $100 — the same as Klaviyo's Email plan, at which point you have rebuilt every flow to arrive back where you started. It is the right move only if the first year's saving funds something time-critical.
Drip is built for stores and prices on two variables at once: its own page says cost is based on the number of active people and the volume of emails sent. Its published entry point is $39 a month for 1 to 2,500 people. This site could not verify its affiliate terms at the source, so it is named here and linked nowhere — and the two-variable model means it cannot be charted honestly against single-variable platforms.
Shopify Email is the one most often left out of these lists and is frequently the right answer for a Shopify store, because it sidesteps the meter argument entirely. Ten thousand emails a month cost nothing and further ones cost $1 per thousand, regardless of how many customers are on file. It is a simpler tool than anything else here, which for a store running four flows is not much of an objection.
One alternative that is not one
HubSpot comes up constantly in this search and is a poor swap for a store, for a reason that has nothing to do with its quality. It prices per seat plus marketing contacts rather than by list, and its Professional tier carries a required one-time onboarding fee of $3,000 stated in its own pricing footnote — before the $800 a month the plan costs. A store leaving Klaviyo over a $100 monthly bill is not the buyer that arithmetic is written for.
All seven platforms, priced at two store sizes with every billing toggle opened individually, are in the main comparison. Klaviyo's own pricing is broken down step by step separately.
Questions this page gets asked
What is the best Klaviyo alternative for a Shopify store?
Omnisend if you want the closest equivalent including SMS, at $81 a month for 5,000 contacts against Klaviyo Email's $100. Shopify's own email tool if the priority is cost — 10,000 emails a month free, then $1 per 1,000, which works out at $50 a month for 60,000 emails and asks nothing about your list size. Sender if you want the cheapest credible platform, at $39 for 5,000 subscribers, or free below 2,500. All read at the vendors' own pages on 24 September 2026.
Is there a free alternative to Klaviyo?
Sender's free plan is the substantial one: 2,500 subscribers, 15,000 emails a month, automation included, with Sender branding on outgoing email. For a Shopify store, Shopify Email gives 10,000 emails a month free indefinitely with no contact meter. Omnisend's free tier is 250 contacts and 500 emails a month and Klaviyo's own is 250 profiles and 500 emails, both of which are trials rather than plans.
Will I lose my automations if I leave Klaviyo?
You will have to rebuild them. Contact data exports and imports without much trouble, but automations are modelled differently on every platform, so triggers, conditions and delays get reconstructed by hand rather than migrated. You also leave behind the engagement history Klaviyo's predictive features were computed from. Omnisend advertises free migration of automations, forms, segments and templates in up to five days — that is its claim, published on its pricing page, not something tested here.
Is Klaviyo ever the cheaper option?
Yes, whenever a large part of your customer file is dormant. Klaviyo bills active profiles, so 25,000 customers of whom 5,000 are engaged are billed at the 5,000-profile rate of $100 a month on the Email plan. A contact-metered platform bills all 25,000: $149 on Sender Standard, $160 on Moosend billed monthly. Work out your active-to-total ratio before assuming a move saves money.
Next along the shelf
Abandoned cart email: the flow is free, the one before it is not
Every platform here sends a cart email and two do it free. The upgrade you are actually paying for is browse abandonment — and what each of the four store flows requires.
Shopify email apps: what is worth paying for, and when
Shopify Email gives 10,000 emails a month free, then $1 per 1,000. Two paid platforms undercut it at 60,000 emails — and one feature is the real reason to switch.
Klaviyo pricing: the whole curve, step by step
$20 a month at 500 active profiles to $400 at 25,000, read off Klaviyo's own slider. Where the curve jumps, why the Marketing plan costs a flat $58 more, and what an active profile really is.
