Klaviyo vs Omnisend: the price gap and what it buys
Omnisend is cheaper at every list size read and publishes an SMS rate Klaviyo does not. Klaviyo is the deeper platform. The figures, including what Omnisend's own comparison claim is actually measuring.
Paid links on this page. Links that begin /go/ are partner links: follow one, subscribe, and the platform sends Reorderly a share of what you pay. Omnisend, Sender and Moosend are the only three that can. Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Brevo and Shopify pay this site nothing and are linked plainly wherever they are the right answer — which, on several pages here, they are. The full arrangement is written down.
Omnisend is cheaper than Klaviyo at every list size compared here, publishes an SMS rate where Klaviyo publishes none, and is the weaker of the two on segmentation depth. That is the whole comparison in one sentence, and the rest of this page is the arithmetic behind it.
One disclosure first, because it changes how you should read what follows. Omnisend can pay this site a commission and Klaviyo cannot pay it anything — Klaviyo runs no publisher programme at all. The cheaper recommendation here is also the paying one, so the figures below are given in full so you can check the reasoning rather than take it.
Price, at matched list sizes
Klaviyo bills by active profiles and Omnisend by contacts, so these are not perfectly equivalent units — a store with a long dormant tail will have fewer billable profiles than contacts. At matched numbers, read on 24 September 2026:
| List size | Omnisend Standard | Omnisend Pro | Klaviyo Email | Klaviyo Marketing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 500 | $16 | $59 | $20 | $78 |
| 1,500 | $25 | $59 | $45 | $103 |
| 2,500 | $44 | $59 | not read at this step | not read at this step |
| 5,000 | $81 | $90 | $100 | $158 |
| 10,000 | $132 | $150 | $150 | $208 |
Klaviyo and Omnisend at matched list sizes, in US dollars per month. Omnisend figures are with the three-month prepay switched off; Klaviyo figures are list prices.
The 2,500 row is blank on the Klaviyo side deliberately. Klaviyo's slider stepped from 1,500 to 3,000 without stopping at 2,500, and rather than interpolate a number that Klaviyo does not publish, the cell says so. Its 3,000-profile rates are $70 and $128.
Omnisend is cheaper at all three, by $4, $19 and $18 a month respectively. Against Klaviyo's Marketing plan the gaps are far wider.
What Omnisend's own comparison claim actually says
Omnisend's pricing page carries "Same power as Klaviyo. Up to 35% less." Its footnote specifies the comparison: Omnisend's Standard plan against Klaviyo's Marketing plan, on publicly available standard rates as of May 2026, excluding SMS and add-ons.
That is a middle tier measured against an upper tier, which is a legitimate comparison to make and a different one from what the headline implies. Measured like for like — Standard against Klaviyo's Email plan — the gap at 5,000 is $81 against $100, about nineteen per cent. Measured the way the footnote describes it, $81 against $158, it is closer to forty-nine per cent. Both are true; they answer different questions.
Where Klaviyo is genuinely ahead
Klaviyo's Marketing plan publishes predictive analytics, onsite personalisation, product recommendations, loyalty rewards, order tracking and a customer self-service hub. Omnisend publishes email, SMS, web push, automation, segmentation and ecommerce reporting, with AI tooling tiered as two tools on Standard and five on Pro.
The honest summary is that Klaviyo sells a customer-data platform that sends email, and Omnisend sells a multi-channel sender for stores. If your next revenue gain comes from knowing more about each customer, that difference is the entire point and is worth the premium. If it comes from running four reliable flows and adding SMS, it is not.
Where Omnisend is genuinely ahead
- A published SMS rate. From $0.007 a message, with a US estimator showing $50 buying 5,882 messages at $0.0085 each. Klaviyo publishes no per-message rate on its pricing page or its SMS page.
- Unlimited sending, cheaply, above 2,500 contacts. Omnisend Pro costs $15 more than Standard at 2,500 contacts and $9 more at 5,000. Klaviyo's Marketing premium is a flat $58 a month at every step to 10,000.
- Free migration of automations, forms, segments and templates, advertised at up to five days. Klaviyo's pricing page carries no equivalent offer.
- A cheaper entry point at every size read, by between $4 and $19 a month against Klaviyo's Email plan.
Free plans, which are not close
Omnisend's free tier is 250 contacts, 500 emails a month and 500 web-push notifications. Klaviyo's is 250 active profiles and 500 emails a month, with support for the first sixty days and Klaviyo branding on outgoing mail. These are both trials rather than plans, and a store with no budget should be looking at neither of them — Sender's free tier covers 2,500 subscribers and 15,000 emails a month with automation included.
The two pricing pages behave differently, and it matters
Both of these pages show you a number that is not the ongoing monthly rate, and they do it in ways that pull in opposite directions.
Omnisend loads with "Pay 3 months upfront (save 30%)" already active, so it looks cheaper than it is: $11.20 and $41.30 rather than $16 and $59. A shopper who compares that opening figure against Klaviyo's rate is comparing a prepayment against a subscription, and Omnisend comes out looking roughly thirty per cent better than it actually is.
Klaviyo's page does the opposite at one specific point. At 500 profiles it headlines $1 against a struck-through $20 — a first-month offer — which makes it look far cheaper than Omnisend for exactly one month and then does not. Klaviyo's page also carries a contradiction this site reports rather than resolves: the same $19 OFF flag sits on the Marketing card at $59 against $78, while the footnote below describes the offer as applying to the $20 email plan.
The comparison table above uses ongoing monthly rates for both, with Omnisend's prepay switched off and Klaviyo's offer excluded. That is the only basis on which the two can be set against each other honestly.
Sending allowances, which are not equivalent
Omnisend Standard allows twelve emails per contact per month — 6,000 at 500 contacts, 60,000 at 5,000 — and Pro removes the cap entirely. Klaviyo's Email plan card shows 5,000 emails a month at 500 profiles, which is ten per profile rather than twelve.
For most stores neither cap binds. For a store that mails several times a week, or runs a heavy promotional calendar in the fourth quarter, Omnisend Pro's unlimited sending at $90 a month for 5,000 contacts is the cheapest way in this comparison to stop thinking about the number altogether.
Both platforms priced against the other six a store would consider is in the main comparison, and each has a full write-up of its own.
Questions this page gets asked
Is Omnisend cheaper than Klaviyo?
Yes, at every list size read here. Omnisend Standard is $16 a month at 500 contacts against Klaviyo Email's $20; $81 against $100 at 5,000; and $132 against $150 at 10,000. Against Klaviyo's Marketing plan the gaps are much wider — $16 against $78 at 500 contacts. Omnisend's own "up to 35% less" claim compares its Standard plan with Klaviyo's Marketing plan and excludes SMS and add-ons. All figures read at the vendors' own pages on 24 September 2026, with Omnisend's three-month prepay switched off.
Should I switch from Klaviyo to Omnisend?
Only if what you use Klaviyo for is available on Omnisend, which for most stores it is — email, SMS, push, automation, segmentation and ecommerce reporting. What does not come across is predictive analytics, onsite personalisation and the recommendation and loyalty tooling on Klaviyo's Marketing plan. Weigh the annual saving against the rebuild: flows do not transfer between platforms and have to be reconstructed. Omnisend advertises a free migration of automations, forms, segments and templates in up to five days, which is its own claim rather than a tested one.
Which is better for SMS, Klaviyo or Omnisend?
Omnisend, for the plain reason that you can find out what it costs. It publishes SMS from $0.007 a message and shows a US volume rate of $0.0085. Klaviyo sells mobile messaging — its plans include "$5 of mobile messages" a month — but publishes no per-message rate on its pricing page or its SMS marketing page, and two SMS pricing addresses returned 404 when checked on 24 September 2026. A channel you cannot budget for is hard to commit to.
Do either of them pay this site?
Omnisend does; Klaviyo cannot. Omnisend runs an open publisher programme, so links to it here begin with /go/ and carry a sponsored tag. Klaviyo runs partner programmes for agencies and technology vendors only, so no commission exists at any price and it is linked plainly. That is precisely why this page shows the full price table at every list size — the reasoning is checkable without trusting the conclusion.
Next along the shelf
Abandoned cart email: the flow is free, the one before it is not
Every platform here sends a cart email and two do it free. The upgrade you are actually paying for is browse abandonment — and what each of the four store flows requires.
Shopify email apps: what is worth paying for, and when
Shopify Email gives 10,000 emails a month free, then $1 per 1,000. Two paid platforms undercut it at 60,000 emails — and one feature is the real reason to switch.
Klaviyo alternatives: work out the ratio first
Six credible replacements, priced at 5,000 people. But the decision turns on one number most comparisons skip: how much of your customer file is actually active.
